The Student Card

The SFHR student card is a digital card that gets you discounts at a wide range of businesses. The card is free for all RU students and goes straight to your phone.

Printing at RU

Students have access to printers in RU's buildings. The university's printing site has instructions for setting up printers, printing and scanning.

Viska Student

SFHR partners with Viska Student to support members' academic and career development. Viska Student offers a range of services that can help students plan their studies, build skills and prepare for their future careers.

Through the partnership, SFHR members get access to useful resources and support that come in handy both during their studies and when taking their first steps into the job market. The goal is to create more opportunities for learning, growth and success for our members.

Lífeyrissjóður Verslunarmanna

Lífeyrissjóður Verslunarmanna (the Pension Fund of Commerce) manages pension savings and insurance coverage for a large share of employees in the Icelandic labor market. The fund's goal is to provide members with financial security in retirement and important insurance protection in the event of disability or death.

SFHR members who pay into Lífeyrissjóður Verslunarmanna accumulate retirement pension rights while also enjoying insurance coverage under the fund's rules. On the fund's website you can find information about your balance, rights, pension payments, private pension savings and other services.

It pays to check your pension status regularly and get to know the options available for pension withdrawal and private pension savings. A good overview of your pension makes it easier to plan your financial security for the future.

The National Union of Icelandic Students (LÍS)

LÍS (Landssamtök íslenskra stúdenta, the National Union of Icelandic Students) was founded on November 13, 2013 and represents university students in Iceland as well as Icelandic students abroad. LÍS is an umbrella organization made up of eight member associations, representing students at the University of Akureyri, Bifröst University, the University of Iceland, Hólar University, Reykjavík University, the Agricultural University of Iceland, the Iceland University of the Arts, and Icelandic students studying abroad. In total, LÍS speaks for more than 20,000 Icelandic students.

The union operates according to a policy platform adopted each year at its national assembly. Its role is to coordinate quality assurance work across Iceland's universities and to defend the interests of students at home and internationally. On behalf of all its member associations, LÍS can negotiate and speak for students before the government and in the media. The union places great emphasis on doing things well and building a strong foundation so it can serve students for the long term. Its key focus areas include its statutes, its finances, and its marketing and outreach — for example through its website, studentar.is, and on Facebook. Beyond these, the union also manages projects such as student participation in quality reviews of university programs, the international work of Icelandic students, and the appointment of student representatives to various government committees and councils dealing with higher education.

Within LÍS, a four-member international committee handles international work. Its main task is Icelandic students' participation in the European Students' Union (ESU), which involves sending representatives to assemblies held across Europe.
