Representatives of the Student Union of Reykjavík University (SFHR) met with Reykjavík Mayor Hildur Björnsdóttir to discuss the planned Borgarlína construction near Reykjavík University. During the meeting, SFHR presented students’ concerns and emphasised the importance of minimising disruption to their studies and daily life on campus.

The construction will affect traffic, access routes and parking around RU. SFHR therefore highlighted the need to maintain good access to the university for students, regardless of how they travel, and to ensure safe walking and cycling routes throughout the construction period.

The meeting also addressed potential disruption from construction noise near teaching facilities. SFHR stressed that the project’s schedule should take the university’s activities into account, particularly during examination periods and other busy times of the academic year.

Clear and timely communication with students was another key priority. Information about closures, altered traffic routes, changes to parking and other temporary arrangements must be communicated to students well in advance.

The meeting marked the beginning of an ongoing dialogue between SFHR, the City of Reykjavík and other parties involved in the project. SFHR will continue to monitor developments, keep students informed and represent their interests throughout the construction period.
